“Get back to work now!” – Trump’s clash with air controllers sparks outrage

Quick Read

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has responded to controller shortages by cutting capacity at 40 major U.S. airports, leading to more than 1,600 flight cancellations and several thousand delays on Monday alone.

President Donald Trump on Monday publicly ordered air traffic controllers to return to work immediately, warning that those who fail to comply will face pay reductions.

Posting on his social-media platform, Trump declared: “All Air Traffic Controllers must get back to work, NOW!!! Anyone who doesn’t will be substantially ‘docked.’”

He offered a $10,000 bonus to controllers who didn’t take any time off during the ongoing federal government shutdown, calling them “GREAT PATRIOTS.” “For those who have taken leave or refused to report, he said: “I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU … you will be quickly replaced by true Patriots.”

The demand comes amid a prolonged funding shutdown of the federal government, which has forced thousands of controllers to work without pay.
