The Nigerian Army has released the official portrait of the 25th Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, warning journalists and the public to stop using outdated images in their reports and publications.
In a statement issued on Tuesday via its official handle, the Army said the move was to ensure uniformity and accuracy in visual references to the nation’s top military officer.
“You are kindly requested to update your media archives accordingly and refrain from using previous photographs, particularly those depicting the Chief of Army Staff with the rank of Major General,” the statement read.
It further clarified that the initial portrait earlier circulated through the same handle should be disregarded, as the newly released image now represents the COAS’s official identity.
The statement added that the directive aims to promote consistency across media platforms and prevent confusion that may arise from the use of old images.
The Army also commended journalists for their professionalism and commitment to factual reporting on security matters.
“The Nigerian Army sincerely appreciates your professionalism, commitment and invaluable contributions to national security through factual and responsible reporting of our activities,” it added.
Lieutenant General Shaibu, who assumed office earlier this year, has since led several strategic military operations nationwide. The release of his official portrait, according to the Army, affirms his rank and office as the country’s top army chief.
