The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, has been plunged into mourning following the death of veteran actor Prince Oyewole Olowomojuore, affectionately known as Baba Gebu.

The iconic Yoruba-language actor passed away on Wednesday.

The news of his unfortunate passing was shared by fellow Nollywood actor Kunle Afod, who took to his official Instagram page to announce the loss.

In an emotional post, Afod described Baba Gebu as a “great legend” who succumbed to an undisclosed illness after a brief battle.

Sharing photos of the deceased, Kunle Afod wrote, “It saddens my heart as I announce the passing away of our great legend, a great actor who passed away this evening after a brief illness… BABA GEBU may your soul rest in peace…”

Baba Gebu enjoyed a long and successful career, making great contributions to several major productions within the Nigerian film industry.

Recall that in 2024, the actor had spoken publicly about the death of his wife, sharing that returning to active acting and his work helped him cope with the grief and avoid falling into depression.

During that period, many colleagues, including Kunle Afod, had rallied around him to support his return to the movie industry.
