The Joint Military Task Force operating under Operation Enduring Peace has intercepted a suspected arms supplier in Plateau State, recovering a number of improvised weapons during the operation.
The man, identified as Ishaya Musa, was stopped by troops on 14 November 2025 at the Jebbu Bassa Bypass checkpoint in Bassa Local Government Area.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the task force’s spokesperson, Major Samson Zhakom, said several locally manufactured firearms were seized from the suspect. The items included six homemade single-barrel guns, two crafted revolver-style rifles, a Dane gun, an expended cartridge and other materials believed to be linked to arms production.
According to Zhakom, the arrest forms part of sustained military action aimed at tackling the circulation of illegal weapons and improving security across the region. He added that both the suspect and the recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation.
The military urged residents to remain alert and promptly share security-related information, especially as the year approaches the busy harvest and festive periods.
Zhakom noted that the operation demonstrated the task force’s continued resolve to protect communities, restrict the spread of unlawful arms and maintain stability within its operational territory.
In a separate operation, troops also stormed a suspected gunrunner’s hideout in Bokkos Local Government Area. The raid, which took place on 13 November at Fashoron Village in the Daffo District, led to the recovery of additional firearms and ammunition by Sector 2 troops.
Plateau State has faced prolonged security challenges, prompting ongoing efforts by the authorities and security agencies to restore lasting peace. The latest arrest adds to a growing list of recent military interventions that have led to the capture of suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
