Panic has spread across the Zuru Emirate in Kebbi State after armed bandits attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
During the late-night attack, the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was killed while trying to protect the students. Several students were also kidnapped, but the exact number is not yet known, as officials have not released any figures.
A resident, Murjanatu Hassan Gishiri, confirmed the incident. She said the attackers entered the school without resistance and caused fear and confusion throughout the community. She described the incident as “heartbreaking” and said it had left residents in deep sorrow.
The slain vice principal is being remembered as a committed teacher who cared deeply for the students.
Security agencies have not issued an official statement yet.
Meanwhile, community members are appealing to both state and federal authorities to take urgent action to rescue the kidnapped students and strengthen security in schools and vulnerable communities.
