President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s judicial system, pledging improved funding, modern infrastructure, and stronger safeguards for integrity within the courts.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 All Nigerian Judges’ Conference of the Superior Courts in Abuja, Tinubu described the Judiciary as the country’s “stabilising force” in moments of national uncertainty. He said the courts had consistently upheld constitutional order and protected citizens’ rights through courageous rulings.
Tinubu noted that the theme of the conference, “Building a Confident Judiciary,” was timely, stressing that public trust remained the true measure of judicial legitimacy. He acknowledged concerns about delays, integrity issues, and limited access to justice, urging judges to confront these perceptions and work towards meaningful reforms.
The President emphasised that his government was committed to providing “tangible, not ceremonial” support, including improved working conditions, better court facilities, and expanded use of technology. He said modernisation—particularly digitisation of court processes and integrated case management systems—would remain a top priority for his administration.
While promising support for judicial training and welfare, Tinubu warned that no reform would succeed without uncompromising integrity. He declared that “justice must never be for sale,” adding that corruption within the Judiciary posed a fundamental threat to democracy.

As judges deliberate during the conference, the President urged them to propose practical solutions to reduce case backlogs, improve access to justice, and enhance public trust. He described them as “guardians of Nigeria’s moral conscience” whose rulings continue to shape the nation’s democratic journey.
Tinubu formally declared the conference open, expressing hope that its resolutions would be transformative for the justice sector.
