VDM, Mr Jollof in security custody after in-flight fight

VDM and Mr Jollof

Quick Read

Nigerian carrier United Nigeria Airlines has handed over social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM), and Mr Jollof, to airport security following a physical altercation during the boarding of Flight UN0523 at Asaba International Airport on Monday morning.

Nigerian carrier United Nigeria Airlines has handed over social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and comedian Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, also called Mr Jollof, to airport security following a physical altercation during the boarding of Flight UN0523 at Asaba International Airport on Monday morning.

A video circulating on social media shows the two men grappling in the aisle while other passengers tried to separate them. In the clip, a voice asks, “Who started it?” and someone off-camera replies, “It was Mr Jollof.” Other passengers can be heard pleading with both men to stop.

The airline confirmed the incident in a statement. Public Relations Officer Chibuike Uloka said: “In full compliance with global aviation safety protocols, our crew responded immediately and professionally to de-escalate the situation. Both passengers were deboarded without delay to ensure the safety, comfort, and security of all other passengers and crew members. They were subsequently handed over to airport security for further investigation.”

Earlier, VDM had explained what led to the confrontation in a video posted after landing. He said the fight grew out of weeks of online exchanges with Mr Jollof. Seeing him in person on the plane, VDM told him, “Today, you will slap me.” He added that Mr Jollof punched him first, prompting VDM to retaliate, and that the scuffle escalated when Mr Jollof bit him. VDM joked that his tattoo was nearly ruined by teeth that “had not been brushed.”
