A fresh political storm erupted on Monday after former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, launched a blistering attack on former President Olusegun Obasanjo, declaring in a leaked message that he belongs to the zoo.

The explosive remark was contained in a “thank you” SMS Fayose sent to Obasanjo after the former President attended his recent birthday celebration.

Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, released the message to journalists in Abeokuta, triggering widespread reaction.

Fayose, in the sharply worded note, accused Obasanjo of making “very irresponsible comments” at the event and said the former leader’s conduct was consistent with the alleged description of him as someone who “belongs in the zoo.”

He wrote: “I kept quiet so that the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man that you are. It is also obvious that you have lost your sanity or should I say this is the heightened stage of dementia.”

Fayose further accused the former President of receiving money from him and demanded its return, saying: “I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received but Dangote brought you back.”

Obasanjo, widely known for his curt and uncompromising tone, fired back immediately in a short response made public.

“Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message which undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable,” he wrote.

He added that the money Fayose referenced had already been returned: “Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo in the same bag as he brought it unopened by me.”

The confrontation marks a dramatic escalation in the long-running animosity between the two men, both of whom have a history of fiery exchanges and open political rivalry.
