Why APC postponed Governor Kefas’ grand reception

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the planned reception for the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, earlier scheduled for Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the APC said the event was shifted “as a mark of honour to members of the armed forces and citizens killed recently by forces of terror,” as well as in respect for victims of ongoing abductions, particularly the schoolgirls kidnapped in Kebbi State.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the situation in the country required sober reflection rather than celebration.

According to him, “The postponement was made as a mark of honour to members of the armed forces and citizens killed recently by forces of terror, and respect for victims of related incidents of abductions especially of innocent students in Kebbi State by enemies of the state.”

The party paid tribute to Nigeria’s security personnel who continue to confront insurgents and bandits at great personal risk.

“We salute the courage and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line in defence of our liberty and security,” the statement added.

While expressing deep sympathy to families affected by killings and abductions, the APC prayed for the safe return of the abducted schoolgirls.

“As we mourn the death of our dear compatriots, we pray for the safe return of our innocent students taken from their families by forces of evil. Our great Party commiserates deeply with families of victims of these incidents,” Morka said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to defeating insurgency and restoring peace across the country.

“The President Bola Tinubu-led administration remains determined to stamp out the menace of insurgency and banditry within our borders, and bring these despicable perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.

A new date for Governor Kefas’ reception will be announced later, the APC confirmed.
