Twenty-five abducted women and children have been rescued by the Zamfara State Police Command after armed bandits raided the Kuraje community in Gusau Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday in Gusau.

According to him, the attack occurred on Friday at about 9:45 p.m. when heavily armed bandits stormed Kuraje village in the Damba district, firing shots and causing panic among residents.

“During the attack, the assailants abducted ten women and fifteen children, all residents of the Kuraje community,” Abubakar said.

He explained that shortly after receiving a distress report, joint Police patrol teams and Community Protection Guards were immediately deployed to the area.

The teams pursued the fleeing bandits and engaged them in what he described as a well-coordinated rescue operation.

“Thanks to the professionalism and gallantry of the operatives, all twenty-five victims were rescued unhurt,” he noted.

The rescued women and children were transported to Sabongari, Damba, where they underwent safety checks and proper profiling before being reunited with their families.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maikaba, commended the officers involved, describing their efforts as “commendable” and reflective of the Command’s determination to confront criminal elements across the state.

Maikaba reassured the public of the police’s sustained commitment to protecting lives and property despite the persistent security challenges in some communities.
