UK rapper and actor Justin Clarke-Samuel has been slammed with more driving-related charges over the road death of a 20-year-old student in Ilford, east London.

The rapper, popularly known as Ghetts is accused of hitting Yubin Tamang with his black BMW M5 on the night of October 18 and failing to stop. Tamang, a Nepalese student studying at the University of Roehampton, died in hospital two days later.

Clarke-Samuel, 41, had earlier been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Prosecutors have now added two more counts of dangerous driving linked to incidents around the same time and location as the fatal crash.

He appeared at the Old Bailey on Monday via video link from HMP Pentonville, dressed in a grey T-shirt and jogging bottoms. The short hearing lasted about 15 minutes. He was not asked to enter a plea.

Members of Tamang’s family, who flew into the UK for the proceedings, watched quietly from the public gallery. They have described him as “a very good person” and “their world”.

CCTV footage reportedly captured the moment Tamang was struck while walking along Redbridge Lane East at about 11:33pm.

Clarke-Samuel was arrested at his home the following morning.

Ghetts, an award-winning rapper known for collaborations with Skepta, Stormzy and Ed Sheeran, and for his role in the Netflix series Supacell, remains in custody. He is expected to enter a plea on December 8.
