Ten-man Everton produced one of the shocks of the Premier League season on Monday night, defeating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford despite playing over 75 minutes with a man down.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s stunning first-half strike proved decisive as Jordan Pickford delivered a heroic goalkeeping display to deny a dominant but wasteful United.

The drama began early when Idrissa Gueye was sent off in the 13th minute, leaving David Moyes’ side with a numerical disadvantage and facing an aggressive United attack.

Rather than collapse, Everton reorganised, defended with discipline, and pounced when the opportunity arrived.

United responded with waves of pressure. Amad Diallo came close twice, Mason Mount repeatedly peppered the box with crosses, and Bruno Fernandes forced multiple saves. But Everton stood tall, anchored by centre-back James Tarkowski and inspired by the brilliance of Jordan Pickford.

The England goalkeeper produced a string of outstanding stops, including reflex saves from Joshua Zirkzee in the 80th and 89th minutes, and a fingertip parry from Bryan Mbeumo’s low strike in the 63rd. United ended the match with 70% possession, 12 corners and over 20 attempts, but their cutting edge deserted them.

In the final minutes, United threw everything forward. De Ligt’s 92nd minute effort was smothered by Pickford, while another late header was blocked by a defender as Everton clung on through five frantic minutes of added time.

When referee Tony Harrington blew for full-time, boos rang around Old Trafford as Everton players celebrated a victory that could reshape their season.
