The National Sports Commission has announced that Bayelsa and Kaduna States will host the next editions of the National Sports Festival.
Bayelsa will host the 2028 festival — the first time the state will stage the event. Kaduna will host in 2030, making it the third time after previously hosting in 1977 and 2009.
The Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, said both states have shown strong commitment and readiness to organise Nigeria’s biggest national sporting event.
He explained that more states are now eager to host because the festival has become more attractive under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which has prioritised sports development.
Olopade added that the Renewed Hope Initiative for the Nigerian Sports Economy aims to modernise and improve the festival’s structure, organisation, and overall standards.
He recalled that the 2025 festival in Ogun State was described as the best in history, but said the commission is determined to make the upcoming events in Enugu (2026), Bayelsa (2028), and Kaduna (2030) even better.
