Tinubu orders service chiefs to intensify crackdown on insecurity

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held a crucial meeting lasting more than an hour with service chiefs and intelligence heads at the State House in Abuja

The meeting was held against the background of worsening security situation in some parts of the country characterised by kidnappings and attacks by bandits and terrorists.

Though the meeting was held behind closed door, one of those present, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, who is the the Chief of Defence Staff spoke to journalists on what transpired during the meeting.

Oluyede said the discussions with the President were engaging, with the President issuing fresh directives to strengthen ongoing operations.

According to Oluyede, Tinubu directed service chiefs and intelligence heads to intensify the crackdown on insecurity and deliver more efficient nationwide results.

Oluyede assured Nigerians that security agencies were improving coordination to ensure peaceful yuletide celebrations across the country.

Meanwhile Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has described nomination of former Chief of Defence Staff, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, as the Minister of Defence as reflection of President Tinubu’s determination to strengthen the nation’s security architecture amid the ongoing state of emergency on insecurity.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Governor described the nomination as “well-deserved, timely and a reaffirmation of excellence.”

He commended Tinubu for what he called “a profound vote of confidence” in the retired General’s integrity, competence and record of national service.

The governor, who said he had worked closely with Musa during his tenure as CDS, described him as “a round peg in a round hole,” praising his discipline, strategic insight and humane leadership style.

According to him, the retired general played a significant role in restoring public trust in the Armed Forces.

Sani added, “For us in Kaduna State, Gen. Musa’s nomination evokes deep gratitude.

“His wise counsel and firm support were instrumental in stabilising communities that once faced serious security challenges.

“The modest but significant gains we recorded bear his enduring imprint.”

Sani urged the Senate to expedite the screening and confirmation of the Minister-designate, saying that the country stood to benefit immensely from his experience and patriotism.

“Congratulations, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa. Nigeria salutes your service,” the governor added.
