Despite this rejection, FIFA is determined to push forward with the corner-kick checks at the World Cup. BBC Sport reports that FIFA will enforce this rule even though many domestic leagues are not willing to use it in their own competitions.

FIFA has decided to introduce a major change to how the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be used at the 2026 World Cup.

The football governing body will go ahead with the new plan even though some stakeholders and officials initially opposed it.

The new rule will allow VAR to review corner-kick decisions during matches at the tournament.

In October, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) held a meeting and agreed that VAR could be expanded to check wrongly issued yellow cardsĀ  especially those that could become red cards. However, IFAB did not approve the request to let VAR review corner kicks.

Despite this rejection, FIFA is determined to push forward with the corner-kick checks at the World Cup. BBC Sport reports that FIFA will enforce this rule even though many domestic leagues are not willing to use it in their own competitions.
