Nigerian singer Lojay has opened up about his personal struggles with love, fame and the pressure of stardom, revealing that a past relationship once made him lose his sense of self.

Speaking in an interview with The Nation, the ‘Monalisa’ hitmaker said the experience changed the way he views love and now influences how he writes music.

“There was a point where I loved someone deeply but lost myself in the process,” he shared. “Love should add to you, not erase you. Since then, I’ve written from a place of balance loving, but with awareness.”

Lojay, known for his romantic and emotional records, also spoke about managing intense attention from female fans, stressing the importance of boundaries.

“I appreciate the love, genuinely,” he said. “But I’ve learned balance. You can’t feed every type of energy. Once you lose that boundary, the music starts to feel performative instead of real.”

With his upcoming debut album XOXO, the singer says he is stepping into a new phase of emotional honesty — one shaped by lessons, not just passion.

“LV N ATTN was desire, Gangster Romantic was heartbreak, and XOXO is acceptance,” he said. “It’s about loving, losing, healing, and still choosing to love again — just differently.”

Despite growing global recognition, the calm-spoken star said he keeps himself grounded by staying close to family and shutting out the noise when necessary.

“Sometimes I just disappear for a bit… no music, no social media. Just time to breathe and reconnect with God and my people,” he added.

Lojay hopes listeners will feel connected to him when they hear XOXO from start to finish.

“If someone finishes the album and says, ‘Yeah, I’ve been there,’ then I did my job.”
