Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan has explained why she was excited instead of being angry or afraid over the N200 billion defamation suit filed against her by Senate President Godswill Akpabio over alleged sexual harassment.

Natasha said this while revealing that she has received the documents for the 200 billion naira suit against her by the Senate President on Friday.

The Kogi Central Senator had accused Akpabio of making sexual advances to her after she was suspended for six months from the Senate in March 2024.

The Senate said Natasha was suspended for called “gross misconduct” she had brought the Senate into disrepute by her utterances and actions regarding her reallocation to another seat.

However, Natasha had insisted that she was suspended because she refused to give in to sexual advances from the Senate President.

She said the new suit against her by Akpabio will give her the opportunity to prove her case against the Senate President.

She said, “Today being the 5th day of December, 2025, I’m in receipt of the newly instituted 200 billion naira suit against me by Senator Godswill Akpabio claiming defamation on sexual harassment.

“Now, I am glad that Sen. Akpabio has brought this up because the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges failed to grant me audience in this issue relying on the fact that Godswill Akpabio’s wife had instituted a defamatory case against me. Therefore they couldn’t attend to a matter already in court.

“Albeit, I couldn’t proceed to court because by senate rules, I must still present my case before the Ethics committee (same committee that recommended my illegal suspension).

“Alas, I now have a chance to prove how I was sexually harassed and how my refusal to give into his demands unleashed series of unprovoked and unprecedented attacks on my person.

“See you in court Godswill Akpabio,” the Kogi East Senator said.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has also been charged with criminal defamation by the Federal Government in relation to her claim that Akpabio, and ex-Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi planned to kill her.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025, is alleged to have transmitted false and injurious information via electronic means with the intention to malign, incite and endanger lives and breach public order.

The senator was alleged to have, while addressing a gathering on April 4 in Ihima, Kogi, accused the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, of instructing ex-Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi to have her killed in the state.

She was also alleged to have, in a television interview, repeated similar claims, to the effect that the Senate president and former governor plotted to kill her in Kogi.

The charge is brought under the Cybercrimes Prohibition, Prevention, etc.

Her trial for the offence is ongoing.
