Quick Read

Aston Villa stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Villa Park, thanks to Emi Buendia’s stoppage-time winner.

Aston Villa stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Villa Park, thanks to Emi Buendia’s stoppage-time winner.

Matty Cash had put Villa ahead in the first half, capitalizing on a rare lapse in Arsenal’s defense to fire past Aaron Ramsdale at the far post.

Arsenal, who had been riding high after emphatic wins over Bayern Munich and Tottenham, looked set to salvage a point when Leandro Trossard netted his sixth goal of the season, leveling the scores after the break.

Martin Odegaard came close, only to see his effort brilliantly tipped over by Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

Just as Arsenal appeared to have secured a draw, Buendia struck in the 94th minute, curling a precise shot into the net after the hosts failed to clear a dangerous delivery.

The goal sparked wild celebrations at Villa Park, marking Villa’s seventh consecutive game unbeaten across all competitions and nine wins in their last ten league outings.

Arsenal, meanwhile, suffered their first Premier League defeat since August’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool, leaving them three points clear at the top but with their unbeaten run halted.
