Awujale Race: Family sets conditions for KWAM 1

The Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu-Ode has asked popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, known as KWAM 1, to prove that he is a true member of the family before he can take part in the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

The chairman of the ruling house, Abdulateef Owoyemi, said that every interested person must fill a special family form that traces their family line up to seven generations. According to him, this is to ensure that only real members of the Fusengbuwa family are allowed to contest.

KWAM 1 had earlier written a letter announcing his interest in the Awujale throne and described himself as a rightful son of the ruling house.

Owoyemi explained that candidates must state the names of their parents, grandparents, and continue backwards to show how they are connected to the family. After submitting the form, the family head will verify and confirm whether the applicant truly belongs to the ruling house.

Although the deadline for applications closed on December 5, the ruling house granted KWAM 1 an extra five days to complete the form, ending December 10.

Owoyemi said the ruling house wants a new Awujale to emerge between the second and third week of January 2026.

He noted that after the ruling house forwards its nominee, the kingmakers will choose one candidate, and the state government will then complete security checks before the final announcement and coronation.
