Why I always cover my face in public – Leonardo DiCaprio

Quick Read

“It’s been a balance I’ve been managing my whole adult life,” he said. “Only get out there when you have something to say or something to show. Otherwise, just disappear as much as you possibly can.”

Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed why he often hides his face when he is out in public.

The 51-year-old actor, recently named TIME’s Entertainer of the Year, said he has spent most of his adult life trying to balance global fame with the need for privacy.

“It’s been a balance I’ve been managing my whole adult life,” he said. “Only get out there when you have something to say or something to show. Otherwise, just disappear as much as you possibly can.”

DiCaprio said he wanted a long-lasting career, and to achieve that, he felt he needed to stay out of people’s faces.

This explains why he is rarely seen without a hat and face mask. He started using the mask during the COVID-19 pandemic and kept it as part of his everyday look.

Not even Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s star-studded wedding changed his routine. DiCaprio was seen leaving his hotel for the event with his cap pulled low over his face, even while wearing a tuxedo.

But when he has work to promote, he removes the coverings. He recently showed his face at a press conference for One Battle After Another in Mexico City.

DiCaprio became world-famous nearly 30 years ago after playing Jack Dawson in Titanic. Since then, he has often spoken about how the film changed his life.
