A woman died in a fire outbreak at Agbaakin Street, behind Testing Ground, Iwo Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday.

He said the fire started after a lighted charcoal cooking pot was left unattended, igniting nearby materials. Firefighters from the state service, with support from the Federal Fire Service, contained the blaze.

According to Akinwande, the fire affected two rooms on the upper floor of a 12-room building. One woman was recovered dead, while two men were rescued. He added that the quick response of officers saved the rest of the building and properties worth millions of naira.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, a fire broke out at the Agric Business Development Agency building at Total Garden, Ibadan.

Akinwande said the fire service received a call at about 9:20 a.m. reporting the incident. Officers, led by ACFS Oyeniyi Taofeek, were deployed to the scene. Investigations showed the fire was caused by electrical sparks from a solar inverter control board on the upper floor.

The fire service said their swift intervention prevented a bigger disaster. No one was injured, and properties worth millions of naira were preserved.
