Popular Nigerian comedian, Klint Da Drunk, has opened up on why he abandoned his initial dream of becoming a musician to pursue a full-time career in comedy.
Speaking in a recent interview on Naija FM Lagos, Klint revealed that he was actively pursuing music while studying at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu, until a performance by legendary singer 2Face Idibia made him reconsider his path.
According to him, watching 2Face, who was also a student at IMT, perform on stage during a campus event convinced him that music might not be his calling.
He said the experience was so overwhelming that he quietly left the hall and eventually decided to give up on music.
“I used to be a musician until 2Face got admitted to my school, IMT. One day when he got on stage to perform at an event, I left the hall,” Klint recalled.
“The organisers begged me to wait and perform after him. I agreed, but after hearing him sing just two lines, I went home. I didn’t know that my style and 2Face’s style were different. If I had known, I would have continued making music. But thank God I didn’t continue. I like where I am.”
Klint Da Drunk added that he has no regrets, noting that comedy has brought him the fulfillment he sought in entertainment.
Before fully transitioning into comedy, Klint featured in the hit Nigerian hip-hop track ‘Obodo’ by rapper Mr Raw, with whom he also co-founded a music group. The group went on to finish second at the Star Quest talent show in 2002, losing out to KC Presh.
His success in comedy later paved the way for roles in Nollywood movies, including Men On The Run, Madam 10/10, Fast Cash, and Lost Kingdom, among others.
