A fierce blaze swept through the Berger Trailer Park, widely known as Berger Suya, in the Olodi-Apapa area of Ajegunle, Lagos, on Thursday night, destroying several trailers, makeshift container shops and piles of abandoned tyres.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it received the distress call at 8:15 p.m. and had crews on the ground within fifteen minutes. Firefighters from Ajegunle, Sari-Iganmu and the Alausa headquarters were deployed to tackle the rapidly spreading flames.

As emergency teams battled the fire, officers from LASTMA, LASEMA and the Nigeria Police worked to manage crowds and keep traffic flowing around the busy axis.

Early findings point to possible negligence as the cause of the outbreak, although officials say a full investigation is already in progress.

The Controller-General of the state fire service, Margaret Adeseye, confirming the incident late Thursday, said crews were still working to bring the inferno fully under control and prevent it from reaching nearby structures.
