A 28-year- old man identified as Uduak Aniete was on Friday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor in Calabar, Cross River State.

In her judgment, Justice Franca Isoni of Family Court sitting in Calabar found Aniete guilty of the allegation.

The Judge therefore sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine.

According to the charge, the convict committed the offence in 2020 at the Nyanghasang Area of Calabar.

He said said to have lured the victim to an apartment with the pretext of helping her to get a job.

The claimant’s Counsel, James Ibor, said that decision on the matter was delayed because the judge went on a national assignment.

“The matter received speedy hearing, and was decided as soon as another judge was appointed,” he said.

Ibor said that the state had a proactive family court system, and that every sexual assault case was diligently prosecuted.
