I support Tinubu quietly now – Lai Mohammed
Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said he remains a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but now supports the party and President Bola Tinubu from behind the scenes.
Mohammed spoke on Friday after delivering the 15th convocation lecture of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, titled “Don’t Just Graduate, Innovate.”
The former minister said although he is no longer active in the frontline of party politics, his commitment to the APC and the Tinubu administration has not changed.
“I am a very loyal member of the APC and I am 100 per cent behind this administration,” he said. “I have played my role in the frontline. Whatever I need to do now, I will do it through the back channel.”
Mohammed, who served as Minister of Information for eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari, said he is now focused on giving back to society.
He urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu, especially in addressing the country’s security challenges, which he said continue to affect economic growth.
Reflecting on his political journey, Mohammed said his prominence was shaped during years of opposition politics under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governments.
He recalled serving as spokesperson for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and later the APC, noting that consistent media engagement helped the opposition gain public trust.
“At a point, we became more credible than the government and effectively operated as an alternative government,” he said.
Mohammed also recalled facing arrests and harassment by security agencies but said intimidation never stopped his political work.
