Just as the unified foreign exchange regime and the removal of fuel subsidies are gradually yielding economic growth after initial hardships, the newly signed Tax Act 2025 will completely eliminate multiple taxations and lead to sustainable financial prosperity for Nigerians.
The Chairman of Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, KGIRS, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe said this at a stakeholders’ engagement on the 2025 Tax Act, held at Lugard House, Lokoja.
He, therefore, called on the citizenry to embrace the new tax policy scheduled to come into effect from January 2026.
The sensitisation program brought together participants from the business sector, civil service, political, and community leaders across the state.
“The new Act removes ambiguity, streamlines tax procedures, and establishes a more transparent and predictable system for both the government and taxpayers.
“We encourage all stakeholders to study the provisions carefully and support the reforms, which are vital for improving Nigeria’s economic outlook.” Enehe said.
In his contribution, the Special Adviser to the state governor on revenue generation commended the organisers of the engagement, noting that it would deepen understanding public perception on the new law and ease its implementation.
“Today’s gathering reflects our shared commitment to building a more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly tax administration system—one that aligns with national reforms while addressing the unique socio-economic realities of our dear state. The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 introduces major reforms aimed at widening the tax net, improving compliance, strengthening legal frameworks, and enhancing revenue generation for sustainable development without killing businesses and individuals.
“This forum provides a vital platform for robust dialogue, collaboration, and clarity among all stakeholders—government agencies, private sector players, business communities, civil society groups, and professionals. Your participation underscores your dedication to a stronger fiscal ecosystem where everyone plays a responsible role.
“Let me commend the leadership of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service for demonstrating innovation, professionalism, and proactive engagement in preparing Kogi State ahead of the full implementation of the Act. These efforts reinforce the vision of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to build a resilient, accountable, and technologically driven revenue system capable of supporting infrastructure growth, social welfare, and economic transformation.
“As we deliberate today, I encourage all participants to approach the engagements with openness and a shared sense of purpose. The future of our tax administration depends on our collective understanding of the law, our willingness to comply, and our commitment to integrity in revenue governance.”
A notable legal practitioner, Barrister Bamidele Suru, provided an overview of the new laws, which he said are in four segments.
