Nigerian Chess master speaker Tunde Onakoya has shared his first encounter with billionaire businessman Abdul Samad Rabiu, founder and chairman of BUA Group, describing it as surprising and inspiring.

Onakoya, who was invited to speak at Oxford University, said he initially had no idea who Rabiu was when they were scheduled to appear together at a session. The two engaged in a casual conversation before the event, during which Onakoya asked Rabiu about his passions, motivations, and vision.

“I had no idea who I was talking to at the time,” Onakoya said. “He spoke with humility and openness, yet you could sense the depth of his experience and influence.”

After the session, the two exchanged contacts. Onakoya later discovered Rabiu’s full profile and influence, which spans Nigeria and beyond. He described Rabiu’s humility and approachability as a striking example of quiet leadership.

“This was a man whose impact spans continents, yet he was completely approachable and unassuming,” Onakoya said. “It was a reminder that real leaders inspire quietly, without fanfare, and lead by example.”
