FRSC to prosecute TikToker Peller after road crash
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said it will prosecute popular TikToker and content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, following a road traffic crash.
The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, raised concern over what he described as reckless behaviour by some celebrities and social media influencers on Nigerian roads.
His reaction followed a viral video that showed Peller live-streaming while driving. The incident reportedly led to a road crash.
In a statement signed by FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed described the act as dangerous and illegal, saying it could have caused loss of lives.
He warned that being famous does not place anyone above the law and does not excuse unsafe behaviour on public roads.
Mohammed said live streaming, recording, or creating content while driving violates traffic laws and puts other road users at risk.
He added that such actions undermine efforts to reduce road crashes and deaths across the country.
As a result, the Corps Marshal directed the Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC to begin prosecution of the TikToker.
He said the charges would include reckless driving, use of phone while driving, and distracted driving, in line with traffic laws.
Mohammed also called on entertainment bodies and influencer groups to take responsibility for their members.
He urged them to promote responsible behaviour and help discourage dangerous conduct on the roads.
According to him, celebrities have strong influence on young Nigerians and should act as safety role models, not promote recklessness.
He warned that the FRSC will strictly enforce traffic laws against anyone, including celebrities, found guilty of distracted or reckless driving.
“No social media content or online trend is worth a human life,” Mohammed said.
He reminded motorists that public roads are not places for filming or live streaming.
The FRSC encouraged Nigerians to report dangerous driving and support efforts to make roads safer for everyone.
