Maresca responds to reports he might succeed Guardiola at Man City

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has dismissed speculation that he could succeed Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, calling the reports “100%” unfounded.

The 45-year-old, who previously worked as an assistant to Guardiola at City, has been named in several reports suggesting he might take over if Guardiola steps down at the end of the season.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Maresca said: “It doesn’t affect me because I know it is 100% speculation and I don’t have time for these things. I have a contract here until 2029. My focus is just on this club, and I am proud to be here.”

He added: “One week ago in Italy, it was the same with Juventus. I don’t pay attention to it. It’s important to understand why this news was there, but it is just speculation. The Newcastle game is important and very difficult.”

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League and are set to face Newcastle United at St James’s Park on Saturday at 12:30 GMT.

Maresca’s remarks reaffirm his commitment to Chelsea, underlining that his priority remains guiding the club through its current campaign rather than entertaining external speculation about other managerial opportunities.
