KWAM1 fails to stop Awujale selection process

An Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode has refused to grant Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, an interim injunction to stop the selection and installation of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

The ruling was delivered on Monday by Justice A. A. Omoniyi.

KWAM1 had asked the court to restrain Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and five others from continuing with the Awujale selection process, pending the hearing of his main suit.

However, the judge dismissed the application, saying it lacked merit and that there were no strong reasons to grant the injunction.

Justice Omoniyi also ordered an accelerated hearing of the substantive case and fixed January 14, 2026, for proceedings.

KWAM1 had earlier declared interest in the vacant Awujale stool, claiming he is from the Jadiara Royal House of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

But the Fusengbuwa ruling house rejected his claim, insisting that the Fuji star is not a member of the royal family.

Following the rejection, Ayinde filed a suit against the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Governor Abiodun, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu, and three others.

Other respondents in the suit include the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat; the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Oke Adebanjo; and the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, Dr Sunny Kuku.

With the court refusing the interim injunction, the Awujale selection process will continue, pending the hearing of the main suit on January 14, 2026.
