Breaking: Six Rivers lawmakers dump PDP

House of Representatives passes Electoral Act 2026 despite the rowdy session and consequent walkout by a group of opposition lawmakers.

Six members of the Rivers State House of Representatives, said to be loyal to former governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers announced their defection during plenary on Tuesday.

Those who crossed over to the APC are Hon. Solomon Bob, Hon. Victor Obuzor, Hon. Dumnamene Dekor, Hon. Cyril Hart, Hon. Blessing Amadi, and Hon. Felix Nwaeke.

Their defection marks the latest political shift linked to the ongoing power struggle within the Rivers PDP, as Wike’s allies continue to realign with the ruling party at the federal level.

The move is expected to further weaken the PDP’s influence in Rivers State and deepen tensions between party factions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
