Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians to draw strength from faith, unity and resilience, insisting that hope remains the nation’s most powerful weapon amid mounting economic and social pressures.

In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message, Jonathan described the season as a defining moment for reflection and renewal, calling on citizens to recommit themselves to Nigeria’s shared destiny despite prevailing hardships.

He said Christmas, which marks the birth of Jesus Christ, carries a timeless message of redemption, peace and renewed purpose, noting that its relevance is even more profound at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with uncertainty.

“Christmas is a season that reminds us of the power of faith, humility, and selfless service, and of the enduring light that shines even in times of uncertainty,” the former President said.

Acknowledging the scale of the challenges facing the country, Jonathan warned against despair, stressing that difficult moments often test — and ultimately strengthen — a people’s collective resolve.

“The history of faith teaches us that hope is most powerful when it is tested. Just as the birth of Christ brought a new dawn to a world in search of direction, our collective faith and resilience will see us triumph over our present trials,” he stated.

Jonathan also underscored the critical importance of peace, unity and national cohesion, describing them as Nigeria’s greatest assets at a time of deep divisions and social strain.

According to him, compassion, mutual respect and a shared sense of responsibility must continue to guide citizens’ interactions if the country is to overcome its challenges and build a stronger future.

“Our shared humanity and our willingness to live with compassion, mutual respect, and responsibility toward one another remain the foundation of a stronger nation,” he said, urging Nigerians to use the Christmas season to promote understanding and goodwill.

He concluded by wishing Nigerians peace, joy and renewed hope, expressing optimism that the coming year would bring fresh blessings and greater stability for the nation.

“Merry Christmas, and may the New Year bring renewed blessings to our nation,” Jonathan added.
