The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has paid tribute to Nigerian troops deployed on the frontline, saying the country owes them “an immeasurable debt of gratitude” for their sacrifices.
In a Christmas message to personnel on operations, Oluyede praised troops who remain on duty across various theatres while others celebrate with their families.
“I pay a special tribute to our gallant frontline troops who, even during this sacred season, remain deployed across various theatres of operation in the defence of our nation,” he said.
According to the CDS, their “courage, discipline, professionalism, and selfless service” reflect the finest traditions of the Armed Forces, noting that they continue to confront security threats while citizens enjoy the festive period.
“You remain vigilant, confronting diverse threats to our collective peace and security, while others enjoy Christmas with their loved ones. For this, the nation owes you an immeasurable debt of gratitude,” he added.
Oluyede also thanked Nigerians for their support of the military, saying the trust and cooperation of the public remained vital to achieving lasting peace and security.
“Trust, cooperation and synergy between the military and the citizenry are indispensable to the attainment of sustainable peace and security across the country,” he said.
The CDS assured personnel that their welfare remained a top priority under his leadership.
“We are firmly committed to improving the living and working conditions of our personnel and their families through enhanced welfare packages, improved healthcare delivery, better accommodation, timely payment of allowances and sustained support for the families of our fallen heroes,” Oluyede said.
He urged Nigerians to use the festive season to promote peace and unity, while calling on members of the Armed Forces to remain disciplined, professional and loyal to the Constitution.
