The Eyo Festival, popularly known as the Adamu Orisha Play, returned to Lagos on Saturday with a powerful and colourful display as residents, tourists and spectators gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) for the 2025 edition.

The festival featured the iconic white-clad Eyo masquerades, traditional chants and energetic dances, showcasing deep-rooted Yoruba cultural symbols and traditions.

According to Channels Television, President Bola Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, are among the dignitaries expected to grace the event. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, are also expected to attend.

The Eyo Festival, which last held in 2017, is regarded as one of Lagos’ most important cultural events and a major symbol of the state’s heritage.

Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu on Friday, had inaugurated the Eyo Monument at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, Lagos Island.

The monument is expected to promote cultural tourism and further strengthen education and economic activities linked to Lagos history and tradition.
