‘Nigerian Judges Must Be Transparent’

The Chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Aishatu Dahiru, has said that there is the need for judges in the country to be transparent.

Dahiru said this in Sokoto on Monday at a valedictory court session in honour of Justice, Mohammad Binji of the state High Court, who retired recently .

According to her, judicial officers should work without blemish so that history and posterity will remember them when they finally leave the service of the nation.

She said, “Binji has left indelible marks in the state’s judiciary and he has never been found wanting in the performance of his duties spanning 43 years .

“He has worked honestly and objectively and without any wrong doing. He is mature and has high moral and judicial responsibilities,” the chief judge stressed.

The Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, described Binji as a patriot who sacrificed his life for the state and Nigeria.

Abdulkadir said Binji’s retirement had created a vacuum which would be difficult to fill in the nearest future .

The state chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association ( NBA), Alhaji Al-Mustapha Abubakar, stated that the bar enjoyed tremendous mutual relationship with the retired judge .

Justice Mohammad Binji, who retired on 13 October, after 43 years in service at the age of 65 years, described the day as indelible in his life .

“Today is an indelible day in my life which I envisaged as early as the day I joined the service . I am hereby calling for forgiveness for all my shortcomings,” he said.
