The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s decision to travel to Europe at a time the country is grappling with renewed security challenges.

The party’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, raised the concerns in a statement posted on his X account on Sunday, where he described the President’s trip as coming at a sensitive moment for the nation.

Abdullahi’s reaction followed reports that President Tinubu had departed Nigeria for Europe ahead of his participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit, where he is expected to engage global leaders on climate action, economic reforms and sustainable development.

According to the ADC spokesman, the President’s absence coincided with heightened public anxiety over recent security developments, including a deadly bomb blast in Zamfara State and concerns triggered by recent foreign military action on Nigerian soil.

He said many Nigerians were expecting reassurance from the President before news of the trip emerged.

“In the wake of another deadly bomb blast in Zamfara, and with a nation waiting to be reassured, Nigerians were surprised to hear that the President had travelled out of the country,” Abdullahi stated.

He added that the President’s silence on key security issues raised questions about leadership communication at a critical time.

Meanwhile, a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, explained that Tinubu’s trip includes participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit, scheduled to hold in early January.

The summit, held at the invitation of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will bring together global leaders to discuss innovation, finance and sustainable developmen
