Tragedy struck an otherwise joyful Christmas celebration in Edo State after a man allegedly killed his childhood friend during a housewarming party in Oben Community.
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Amadin Williams, in connection with the death of Eghosa Osas.
Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
According to the Punch, the deceased had recently returned from abroad with his family to celebrate Christmas and was hosting a housewarming party when the incident occurred.
It was gathered that Eghosa briefly excused himself during the gathering when he was allegedly confronted by the suspect. He was attacked and later died from his injuries.
“The report is true. The victim, Eghosa Osas, was allegedly killed by his childhood friend for reasons yet to be determined,” a police source said.
Ikoedem disclosed that the case was reported by the victim’s elder brother and assured that the command has commenced a full investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing.
“The suspect is in custody. Investigation is ongoing and he will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” she added.
The incident adds to growing concerns over violent crimes in the state. Police authorities recently disclosed that over 800 suspects were arrested across Edo State in 2025 for offences ranging from armed robbery and kidnapping to murder and cult-related activities.
