Gunmen struck Gebbe village in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Monday, triggering panic as residents fled to nearby communities and bushes for safety.
The PUNCH reports locals saying the attackers arrived without warning, firing shots and throwing the area into chaos. Several people were feared dead, while others sustained injuries, although the exact number of casualties could not be confirmed at press time.
The report says a resident described the assault as one of the most violent the community had witnessed in years.
According to the report, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, in confirming the incident, said security personnel had been deployed to assess the situation and restore order. He added that details on casualties would be released after investigations.
