The crisis within the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano deepens as the party installed Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the Acting State Chairman of the party, following the sacking of the former State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, by his Ward executive.

Abiya’s appointment was endorsed by the NNPP State Executive Committee after an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Kano.

The decision was announced by Barr. Yusuf Mukhtar, the Assistant Legal Adviser of the party, who said Abiya’s appointment was in line with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.

Party sources said the development followed the submission of a formal resolution on the sacking and expulsion of Dungurawa by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee.

Mukhtar recalled that the Dawakin Tofa executive members, under the leadership of Hon. Abdullahi Ali Uban Iya Dawanau, transmitted the resolution forwarded by the Gargari Ward Executive to the state leadership of the party.

According to him, the resolution was adopted at the second executive meeting of the Gargari Ward, held two weeks after the general election, where Dungurawa was accused of anti-party activities.

He said after reviewing the report, the State executive endorsed the decision and approved Abiya’s emergence as Acting State Chairman.

Party officials said the move was aimed at restoring internal discipline, strengthening party cohesion, and repositioning the NNPP for future political engagements in Kano State.

In his response, the Ag. Chairman of the NNPP Kano State chapter Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya said the party is will do justice to all manner of poeple and remain loyal to the national leader Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf

Meanwhile, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, the embattled Chairman of the NNPP in Kano state, has described his sack from the party by the party executives in his Ward as a “child’s play,” insisting that they did not follow due process.

Dungurawa who spoke to journalists at the residence of the party’s national leader, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, on Tuesday, said both the state and national leaders of the party are working together to sort out the latest challenges facing the party in Kano.

Dungurawa declared that he remains a bona fide member of the party and the duly recognized chairman of the NNPP in the state.

He dismissed the reports and actions suggesting otherwise, describing them as, “baseless and misleading.”

According to him, “no Ward Executive has the authority to expel a state chairman without due process and ratification by the appropriate organs of the party.”

He re-affirmed his loyalty to the NNPP and its leadership, insisting that he remains committed to the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the collective vision of the party.

Dungurawa maintained that neither the state nor the national leadership of the NNPP has taken any decision removing him from office, insisting that his position remains intact.

According to him, the NNPP leader and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has been actively engaging critical stakeholders of the party across different levels in an effort to strengthen internal cohesion and reposition the party for greater political success.

Dungurawa further stated that the meetings and engagements are ongoing, designed towards ensuring unity and stability within the NNPP in Kano, and across Nigeria.

The embattled NNPP chairman disclosed that significant progress has so far been achieved in the consultations being led by Senator Kwankwaso, adding that party members and the general public would be fully briefed once the process is concluded.

Dungurawa, however, advised party supporters to remain calm and patient as efforts to resolve internal issues continue.

Our Correspondent reports that mixed feelings envelop NNPP in Kano, following the rumoured defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
