Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has opened up about the emotional pain of losing his mother, revealing that the loss still weighs heavily on him even a year later.

Speaking during a training session in Morocco ahead of the knockout stages of AFCON 2025, Nwabali shared that his mother passed away around midnight on December 31, 2024, a day he described as particularly difficult.

“I lost my mum around 12 a.m. last night… I felt like quitting football. Imagine losing both parents within barely two months,” Nwabali said, visibly teary as he reflected on the ordeal.

Despite the personal tragedy, Nwabali has remained committed to the national team. The Super Eagles advanced to the next stage of AFCON 2025 after winning all their group stage matches, and Nwabali’s resilience has been praised by teammates and fans alike.
