The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports suggesting it has released a timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission said no timetable has been approved or circulated for the 2027 polls, urging Nigerians and the media to ignore the reports and rely solely on its verified communication channels.

“The Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that INEC has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election,” the statement said.

“This information is false and misleading.”

INEC stressed that it operates strictly within the law, pointing to Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates the Commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.

It noted that any timetable issued outside this statutory framework could not have emanated from the Commission.

Reassuring Nigerians, INEC said the official timetable and schedule for the 2027 general election would be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.

“When released, it will be communicated through the Commission’s established and verified channels,” INEC added.

The statement was signed by Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, and dated January 2, 2026.
