Niger governor Mohammed Umaru-Bago of Niger has expressed excitement on the safe delivery of a baby boy by Saratu Mohammed, a survivor of the Essa petrol tanker explosion who has been on admission at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) for treatment.

The tanker overturned and spilled its contents leading to an explosion that claimed 57 lives with 47 others injured.

Mohammed who was among the victims transferred to UATH for intensive medical care was delivered of a baby boy on Jan. 1, 2026.

Reacting to the cheerful development, Umaru-Bago, in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, described the birth as a joyful reminder of Allah’s mercy and wonders beyond human comprehension.

“The case of Mohammed is a testament to Allah’s awesomeness and greatness, and a reminder that He can make all things possible.

“This child is no doubt a child of destiny and will always remind the parents and everyone of Allah’s mercy and faithfulness,” he said.

While felicitating with her and her family, Bago enjoined them to nurture the child in the fear of Allah so that he would fulfil his purpose on earth.

He prayed that Allah would strengthen Mohammed as she continued to recuperate from the injuries she sustained during the explosion, as well as the pains of childbirth.

The governor also reaffirmed the state government’s continued support to her and other survivors of the incident who were still receiving medical treatment.
