How God spared Anthony Joshua when death took his friends – Adeboye speaks

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has revealed what he described as a divine twist of fate that saved British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua in a horrific crash on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway last Monday.
“I read in the newspapers yesterday that our boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, exchanged seats with someone before the accident,” Adeboye said during Sunday’s monthly thanksgiving service. “The people he exchanged seats with died. I don’t know why, but the mercy of God said someone would still be alive today.”
The crash claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s close friends, Ayodele Kelvin and Gami Sina, both 36, while Joshua and the driver sustained injuries.
Citing Lamentations 3:22–23, Adeboye emphasized that survival in life-or-death situations is the result of God’s mercy, not human cleverness. “It is by the mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed. We are alive because of the mercies of the Lord, not because of cleverness,” he said.
The cleric also referenced Psalm 89:1, highlighting the personal nature of divine protection: “Whenever something is very important to David, he uses the singular to express himself. When you hear him say, ‘The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want,’ it is personal. Take this message personally. God’s mercy can spare anyone.”.”
