Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi (MON) has narrowly escaped death following a car accident in Lagos.
The football star shared a disturbing video on his Instagram page on Sunday, showing the badly damaged front of his SUV after the crash. According to Onazi, the incident involved two drunk occupants in another vehicle.
Reacting to the incident, the former Lazio and Trabzonspor midfielder called on the government to urgently address the growing menace of drunk driving in Lagos.
“The government has to do something about drunk people driving in Lagos. Almost lost my life last night with two drunk boys in the car,” Onazi wrote.
The accident comes barely a week after the Super Eagles legend celebrated his birthday, receiving warm messages and public tributes from fellow Nigerian football greats, including former national team captain Vincent Enyeama and ex-Premier League striker Peter Odemwingie.
Onazi, who was part of Nigeria’s AFCON-winning squad in 2013, is the latest high-profile figure to raise alarm over road safety in Lagos, where reckless and intoxicated driving continue to pose serious risks to motorists and pedestrians alike.
