Wike meets APC, PDP leaders, moves to block Fubara’s second term
Quick Read
The meeting is seen as a strategic follow-up to Wike’s Saturday statement in Okrika, where he warned that allowing Fubara a second term in 2027 would amount to “political burial” for himself and his allies.
Former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, took a decisive step on Monday morning in his ongoing political battle against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, meeting with Rivers State APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, and PDP State Chairman, Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron.
The meeting is seen as a strategic follow-up to Wike’s Saturday statement in Okrika, where he warned that allowing Fubara a second term in 2027 would amount to “political burial” for himself and his allies.
This Monday discussion hints at the beginning of Wike’s practical steps to consolidate political influence across party lines in Rivers State. While details of the meeting were not disclosed, the move carries strong indications for the trajectory of Rivers politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, Wike reiterated in a separate meeting earlier today that Rivers is a no-go area, issuing a stern warning to APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, over his recent comments regarding the state. He cautioned Basiru to steer clear of Rivers politics, stressing that past attempts to undermine the state’s political structure had ended in failure.
“Tell the APC National Secretary to leave Rivers State alone. Go and ask those who have tried it before,” Wike said.
He also warned that the support given to President Bola Tinubu by Rivers stakeholders should not be taken for granted, emphasizing that reckless statements could trigger unnecessary political tension.
The former governor’s engagement with leaders of both APC and PDP in Rivers highlights a rare cross-party coordination, aimed at controlling the political narrative and safeguarding his influence within the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
