The Ogun State Government has outlined plans to deliver no fewer than 3,000 additional housing units in 2026, as part of a broader strategy aimed at expanding affordable housing and executing landmark infrastructure projects across the state.
The roadmap was unveiled on Monday by the Commissioner for Housing and Sector Head, Mr Omoniyi Jagunmolu, during a media briefing where he described 2026 as the state’s “Year of Sustainable Legacy”.
Jagunmolu said the housing strategy aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to provide 10,000 affordable homes before the end of his tenure, a target the administration says exceeds the cumulative output of previous governments in the state.
Reviewing the ministry’s performance, the commissioner said the housing sector closed the 2025 fiscal year on a strong note, with the completion of 30 duplex units at the Ibara GRA Cluster 1 Extension and 100 duplexes at the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate.
According to him, the projects attracted significant interest from residents as well as Nigerians in the diaspora, further positioning Ogun as a preferred destination for real estate investment.
He explained that the 2026 programme would focus not only on residential development but also on strategic public infrastructure. Key projects include the construction of an International Conference Centre in Iperu, a 2,500-capacity banquet hall, the Court of Appeal headquarters and judges’ residences, the launch of Ibara GRA Phase II with 50 duplexes, as well as new residential quarters for commissioners and members of the House of Assembly.
Jagunmolu added that construction work would continue at Prince Courts Estate in Siun, ISEYA Court in Oke-Mosan, Havila Court in Ibara and Havens Court in Ijebu-Ode.
“Housing delivery in our Gateway State goes beyond putting roofs over people’s heads. It is about dignity, functionality and inclusive economic growth.
“Our goal is to make Ogun State the reference point for urban development in Nigeria,” he said.
A key component of the 2026 housing agenda, according to the commissioner, is the ongoing Ibara GRA Urban Regeneration Project. He disclosed that 150 out of the planned 200 modern housing units had already been completed, transforming an area once dominated by illegal structures into an organised and high-value residential zone.
Addressing criticisms and misinformation encountered in the previous year, Jagunmolu said the administration remained focused on tangible results.
“We remain undeterred. We choose facts over fiction and delivery over distraction. The transformation visible across our estates speaks for itself,” he said.
He noted that beyond meeting housing needs, the 2026 housing budget was designed to stimulate economic growth, create jobs and increase the state’s Gross Domestic Product through strategic partnerships and disciplined project execution.
Jagunmolu said the state would continue to pursue coordinated development across the justice, hospitality and residential sectors to ensure sustainable and people-centred growth in the coming fiscal year.
