Delta State has formally declared its interest in hosting the 2026 President Federation Cup final, with the Chairman of the Delta State Football Association (DSFA), Honourable Adode Godwin, expressing confidence in the state’s capacity to stage a memorable event.

Adode made this known while speaking with journalists in Morocco on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). According to him, Delta State possesses the right infrastructure, security, and hospitality to successfully host the final of Nigeria’s oldest football competition.

“Delta State has the enabling environment to host the President Federation Cup final. We hosted the competition in 2023, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive,” he said. “It was a grand finale with massive fan turnout. Supporters came from all over the country to Asaba for the final between Rangers International of Enugu and Bendel Insurance of Benin.”

The DSFA chairman also expressed optimism about the state-owned club, Warri Wolves, backing the team to secure a continental ticket at the end of the current Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

“The Delta State Sports Commission has continued to support the team financially and in kind. Recently, a new coaster bus was provided to further motivate the players,” Adode noted. “I expect Warri Wolves to reciprocate this gesture by improving their position on the league table. I believe they owe Delta State a continental ticket.”

On infrastructure development, Adode assured football stakeholders that renovation works at the Warri Township Stadium would be completed before the end of the year.

“Work has reached an advanced stage, and when completed, the stadium will complement the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba,” he added. “We are also making efforts to upgrade facilities at the Sapele Stadium to further enhance football development in the state.”

Delta State last hosted the President Federation Cup final in 2023, earning praise for its organization, fan engagement, and overall hospitality.
