EFCC uncovers politicians’ evil agenda

“Their aim is to distract the commission and intimidate it into a timid mode through scaremongering and sponsored attacks,” Oyewale said.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has raised the alarm over what it described as a calculated attempt by some politicians to discredit the anti-graft agency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the EFCC accused individuals with vested interests in ongoing investigations and prosecutions of sponsoring smear campaigns against the commission and its leadership.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said the attacks are being targeted at the commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede, with allegations of political bias allegedly being pushed through paid media operatives.
According to him, the objective of the campaign is to intimidate the EFCC and discourage it from probing opposition politicians by portraying its actions as partisan.
“Their aim is to distract the commission and intimidate it into a timid mode through scaremongering and sponsored attacks,” Oyewale said.
He warned that the smear campaign is expected to intensify as political activities heat up ahead of the 2027 polls, stressing that the commission is closely monitoring those involved.
“The EFCC will not tolerate any attempt to distract it from its patriotic duty of improving public accountability,” he said, reaffirming the agency’s non-partisan stance.
Oyewale insisted that no politician, whether in the ruling party or the opposition, is above investigation, revealing that several prominent figures across party lines are currently being probed or facing trial.
He also dismissed claims that the commission selectively targets individuals, noting that all its actions are guided strictly by its Establishment Act and the Constitution.
The EFCC further stated that it would not succumb to pressure or blackmail to publicly name politically exposed persons under investigation, adding that it remains committed to carrying out its mandate “without fear or favour.”
