Lagos dismisses claims of rift between Sanwo-Olu, Abiodun

Quick Read

According to the Lagos State Government, the two governors are in regular contact and frequently engage on issues of mutual interest, particularly those affecting Lagos and Ogun states, which share common boundaries and strong socio-cultural ties.

The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports suggesting a breakdown in relations between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, describing such claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Lagos governor, Gboyega Akosile, the administration said there was no truth to insinuations circulating on some online platforms and blogs about a rift between the two leaders.

“The reports are not true. In fact, they are the direct opposite of the relationship that exists between the two leaders,” Akosile said.

He stressed that both governors maintain a close and cordial relationship rooted in shared developmental goals and long-standing cooperation between their neighbouring states.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Prince Dapo Abiodun and Governor Sanwo-Olu enjoy a very cordial brotherly relationship,” the statement noted.

According to the Lagos State Government, the two governors are in regular contact and frequently engage on issues of mutual interest, particularly those affecting Lagos and Ogun states, which share common boundaries and strong socio-cultural ties.

“The two brother-governors meet regularly and speak with each other frequently on matters of mutual interest for the development of their respective states,” Akosile said.

The statement also warned purveyors of misinformation to refrain from attempting to sow discord between the two leaders, noting that both governors remain united by a shared vision for the progress and wellbeing of their people.

“We would like to advise those seeking to plant a seed of discord between the two leaders with fake news to desist forthwith,” it added.

The clarification was issued on January 8, 2025.
