A six-year-old girl abducted from her mother’s shop at Onuebonyi area of Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State has been rescued from her abductors.
The mother identified as Mrs Obasi Daberechi had on Tuesday reported to the police that her daughter was abducted from her shop, Ebonyi Police Command spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, said.
The kidnappers who had posed as customers to abduct the girl later demanded a ransom of N50 million to set her free.
But Ukandu said the girl was girl was successfully rescued the same day without payment of ransom with arrest of two suspects.
“The suspects, who posed as customers, subsequently demanded a ransom of N50 million for the child’s release.
“Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, through painstaking and diligent investigation, traced the kidnappers to their hideout at Agogboriga Layout, Abakaliki.
“The child was rescued unhurt,” he said.
Ukanduwo said that two male suspects, both 23 years of age, were arrested in connection with the incident.
He added that the suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
“Following this remarkable success, the Ebonyi Police command urges residents of the state to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity in their areas via the command’s Control Room on 07064515001,” Ukandu stated.
